Duas vagas para professor adjunto no Observatório do Valongo (UFRJ) (Comunicado por Silvia Lorenz em 16/12/2009) O Observatório do Valongo fará um concurso para preenchimento de duas vagas de professor adjunto no início do próximo ano. O edital do concurso ainda não foi publicado, mas deve sê-lo dentro de, no máximo, um mês. Estimamos que o concurso ocorra em meados de março de 2010. O concurso será setorizado na área de Astrofísica Geral. Os dois primeiros colocados serão indicados para a vaga. Os pontos para a prova serão: 1. Evolução Estelar 2. Atmosferas Estelares 3. Postdoctoral Position - Reconstruction of sky maps with Planck-HFI data (Comunicado por Isabel Aleman em 16/12/2009) Applications are solicited for a post-doctoral position at the Laboratoire de l'Accelerateur Lineaire (LAL) in Orsay, France. The successful applicant will work for a significant part if her/his time on the reconstruction and scientific qualification of the temperature and polarisation sky maps from the Planck-HFI data, of which we are officially in charge within the HFI Data Processing Center. The Planck-HFI team at LAL is also actively involved in other aspects of the Planck-HFI data reconstruction and analysis, such as CMB lensing and B-modes. Participation on these subjects will be heartily encouraged. This position will also offer opportunities to collaborate with researchers at other Planck-HFI institutions in the Paris and Orsay area. The position will begin as soon as possible, once a successful candidate has been selected. The position is for two years. The closing date is March 31th 2010, but applications will be considered until the position is filled. Escola de Verão do do LAC/INPE 2010 (Comunicado por Reinaldo Rosa em 11/12/2009) Estão abertas as inscrições para a Escola de Verão do Laboratório de Computação e Matemática Aplicada do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais. A ELAC-2010 será realizada de 23 a 26 de fevereiro no INPE em São José dos Campos-SP, oferecendo 12 Mini-Cursos. Na edição de 2010 serão oferecidos minicursos inéditos em Processamento de Imagens, Wavelets, Processos Estocásticos, Cosmologia Computacional, Redes Neurais, entre outros. COSMOS public release of spectra, imaging, redshifts and catalogs (Comunicado por Adriana Válio em 11/12/2009) The COSMOS team is pleased to announce a significant release of spectroscopic, imaging, and photometric data along with several derived data products. All of these can be browsed, queried, and downloaded via the NASA/IPAC Infrared Science Archive (IRSA) at: http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/data/COSMOS/. Additional information can be found on the COSMOS team website at http://cosmos.astro.caltech.edu/ and in the COSMOS Special Issue of the Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series (172, 1, 2007). Included in this data release are Magellan IMACS spectra of almost 700 targets, which complement the zCOSMOS 10k spectra released earlier in the year. Redshifts derived from these spectra as well as the Ilbert et al. 2009 photometric redhifts have been made available through IRSA. Ground-based observations of the entire COSMOS field are now available for 23 filters taken at CFHT, Subaru, and UKIRT. Small cutouts, tiles, and large mosaics are provided in nine broadband filters, including some of the deepest J and K band images available, reaching J~23.7, and K~23.7 on the AB system, comparable to the UKIDDS UDS data. In addition to the broadband data, twelve Intermediate bands covering the 427-827nm range, and two narrow bands at 711nm and 816nm are also available. A number of catalogs have also been released and/or updated, including the latest Chandra, GALEX, MIPS 24um-160um, and VLA photometry catalogs, as well as a set of recently revised morphology catalogs used in papers published by the team. The COSMOS archive contains a substantial array of data products surveying the COSMOS field, including observations by all of the major space-based observatories (Chandra, GALEX, Hubble, Spitzer, XMM) and a wide variety of ground-based data, which when combined, span the spectrum from radio to X-rays.
