Rádio UFSCar estreia programa de divulgação da Astronomia (Comunicado por Gustavo Rojas em 07/10/2009) Na próxima terça-feira (13/10), às 18 horas, estreia na Rádio UFSCar o programa Paideia, produzido pelo Laboratório Aberto de Interatividade para a Disseminação do Conhecimento Científico e Tecnológico (LAbI) da UFSCar. Paideia abordará diversos aspectos da cultura científica e, a cada temporada, será dedicado a um tema específico. Esta primeira edição falará sobre Astronomia, em comemoração ao Ano Internacional da Astronomia, celebrado em 2009. Além de orientações sobre como observar o céu a cada semana, notícias e do quadro "Pergunte ao Astrônomo" - no qual o ouvinte poderá tirar suas dúvidas ao vivo -, o programa Paideia veiculará quinzenalmente os capítulos da radionovela "Um Universo entre Nós", inspirada em "Diálogo sobre as duas novas ciências", de Galileu Galilei. Outra atração quinzenal é o quadro "Uma Música, um Tema", que traz entrevistas ao som de músicas relacionadas ao tema em debate. Paideia irá ao ar todas as terças-feiras, das 18 às 19 horas, em 95,3 FM, e também no endereço http://www.radio.ufscar.br. ************************************************************* OPORTUNIDADES ************************************************************* 2. Vaga para professor adjunto em Física/Astronomia na UEZO - Rio de Janeiro (Comunicado por Helio Jaques Rocha-Pinto) Estão abertas, até o dia 26 de outubro de 2009, as inscrições para o cargo de Professor Adjunto do Centro Universitário Estadual da Zona Oeste (UEZO), na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. A remuneração inicial para o cargo é de R$ 4.279,48 e a jornada de trabalho será de 40 h. Seleção de bolsista para pós-doutorado no LNA (Comunicado por Iranderly Fernandes em 08/10/2009) O Diretor do Laboratório Nacional de Astrofísica - LNA, Unidade de Pesquisa do Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia - MCT, vem oferecer uma bolsa de pós-doutoramento para desenvolvimento tecnológico no Projeto BraVO – LNA. I – Informações gerais No contexto do BraVO (Brazilian Virtual Observatory) o BraVO-LNA desenvolve o projeto SOAR-VO que visa disponibilizar à comunidade astronômica brasileira infraestrutura e ferramentas de busca e processamento de dados astronômicos especificamente no que se refere aos dados provindos do Telescópio SOAR, como parte da integração do Brasil ao Observatório Virtual. As atividades do projeto envolvem os estudos multidiciplinares na área de astrofísica e computação com o objetivo geral da otimização de armazenamento de dados e criação de ferramentas de processamento dos mesmos. O Plano de Trabalho referente a bolsa será elaborado conjuntamente pelo LNA e o candidato a bolsa. O projeto é parte da contribuição brasileira (BraVO) para as atividades do Observatório Virtual Internacional (IVOA; veja: www.ivoa.net). II - Requisitos do bolsista: a) ser doutor com experiência em atividades de pesquisa, desenvolvimento ou inovação, em uma das áreas do projeto; b) dedicar-se integralmente às atividades programadas; c) não acumular a bolsa com bolsas concedidas por qualquer agência de fomento nacional; d) é desejável que o profissional tenha experiência na área de tecnologia da informação, computação ou programação aplicada a astrofísica e familiaridade com os processos que envolvem a transferência e o processamento de dados via web. III – Da Bolsa: Bolsa de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico (DTI) Valor da bolsa: R$ 3.169,37 por mês. Carga horaria: 40 horas/semana em regime de dedicações exclusiva. Asymmetric Planetary Nebulae 5 (Comunicado por Isabel Aleman em 07/10/2009) Bowness-on-Windermere, The Lake District, England 20-25 June 2010 http://www.astrophysics.manchester.ac.uk/apn5 SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND Understanding the intricate structures shown by many planetary nebulae presents one of the most vexing problems in astrophysics. The origin and development of the asymmetries, both on large and small scales, is still not understood. Similar structures are seen in a variety of circumstellar environments, including nova shells and massive stars. A common physics may act in these different classes of objects. The origin of the asymmetries has been sought in, amongst other mechanisms, the interaction with binary companions and the effect of magnetic fields. There is growing evidence for the presence of disks and jets, which become a driving force in the continuing shaping of the stellar ejecta. A wealth of new facilities, such as ALMA, Herschel, e-VLA and e- Merlin, and the large Galactic plane surveys such as EGAPS, is promising a further rapid development of the field. PN shaping mechanisms and their wide application across many areas of astrophysics, have been the motivation for the series of meetings Asymmetric Planetary Nebulae meetings. We would like to announce the next meeting, Asymmetric Planetary Nebulae V, scheduled to take place in the beautiful English Lake District, 20-25 June, 2010. Possessing the country's highest mountain and its deepest lake, it is breath-takingly beautiful and among the UK's most popular tourist destinations. The conference will be held in Bowness-on-Windermere, a busy tourist town on Lake Windermere. The conference venue, The Burnside Hotel, is situated close to the centre of town, minutes walk from the lake ferries. TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION The main airport in the region is at Manchester. A direct regular train connects the airport to Windermere. Other possible airports are at Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh, changing trains at Preston, Lancaster or Oxenholme. London is considerably further and trains from London can be exceptionally expensive. The hotel is a 10 minute taxi ride from Windermere station. Details of a local transport service will be announced closer to the time. Until March the 1st, the hotel has reserved its entire 57 bedrooms and made them available to participants at attractively discounted prices, including stays over the weekends before and after the conference. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES We have organised tours with Mountain Goat Lake District Tours, an established local tour provider, for Sunday June 20th, the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd and Saturday 26th. It is also our intention to offer organised hiking excursions to climb some of the Lake Districts many fells and mountains. There will also be the obligatory five-a-side football competition.
