A Secretaria das Comissões de Programas - SECOP, em nome do LNA, comunica que a chamada para as propostas do Observatório do Pico dos Dias (OPD), semestre 2010A, encontra-se divulgada na pagina do LNA (www.lna.br, chamada para propostas: 01 de outubro de 2009). O sistema de submissão é on-line. Oportunidade observacional com o telescopio de 1.52m do ESO (Comunicado por Cláudio Bastos Pereira em 01/10/2009) Prezados colegas Existe a oportunidade de alugar o telescópio de 1.52m do ESO em uma escala anual. Atualmente este telescópio dispõe de um excelente espectrógrafo Cassegrain BC. http://www.eso.org/sci/facilities/lasilla/telescopes/e1p5/BC/BC.html O Observatorio Nacional pode negociar com o ESO o aluguel deste telescópio para uso da comunidade astronomica do Brasil. Existindo um interesse nacional, o LNA e ON estariam encarregados da administração do uso do 1.52m. No entanto, afim de conseguir um apoio para negociar com o ESO é necessario conhecer inicialmente o interesse da comunidade. Este espectrógrafo provou ser de muita utilidade para realizar surveys de objetos astrofísicos variados como estrelas e asteroides visando. tanto a determinação química como a deteção de objetos em emissáo etc. Afim de obter ter uma primeira ideia, solicitamos a coletividade interessada de nos enviem propostas de principio para os seguintes endereços abaixo. As propostas poderiam conter além do título, o número de noites necessárias por ano para o desenvolvimento do projeto. Postdoctoral position in numerical astrophysics in PUC/Chile (Comunicado por Laerte Sodré em 01/10/2009) The Center for Astro-Engineering and the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile invites applications for one postdoctoral position in numerical Astrophysics, starting as early as December 2009 and lasting 2+1 years. The third year is subject to performance and availability of funds. The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics provides an international environment with about twenty five active researchers and a similar number of graduate students. The available computational facilities include a 512 core computer intended for numerical simulations/databases/data analysis. The succesful applicant is expected to work actively with other members of the simulations area of the Centre. As this supercomputer is available for use to other Astronomy Departments in Chile, a maximum of 10% of the postdoc time will be devoted to support for external users of the supercomputer (parallel techniques, proper use of qeues, etc). As a result of the large concentration of telescopes, Astronomy in Chile is a very active field of research, with a growing number of numerical astrophysics groups in different Universities throughout the country. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, list of publications, a research plan, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by 31 October 2009. The research plan should address how the applicant intends to make use of the computing facilities available at U. Catolica and how he/she can contribute to the development of the current numerical astrophysics work being carried out by members of the Centre and Astronomy Department. Postdoctoral positions in Infrared Interferometry (Comunicado por Rodolfo Smiljanic em 07/10/2009) Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions in the Infrared Interferometry Group of the Max-Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn (see http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/div/ir-interferometry). Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one of the following areas: young stellar objects, active galactic nuclei, radiative transfer modeling, or infrared interferometry. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in interferometric observations and their interpretations, or in instrumentation projects (e.g., science software development for the VLTI-MATISSE instrument). The positions offer excellent opportunities for high-resolution studies using the VLT Interferometer. Since our group is a member of the international LBT consortium, we own LBT Guaranteed Observing Time. The appointments are initially for two years and are renewable for up to five years. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and brief description of research interests, and arrange for one letter of recommendation to be emailed to weigelt@mpifr.de. DARK Fellowships (Comunicado por Rodolfo Smiljanic em 07/10/2009) DARK Fellowships are independent postdoctoral positions focused on areas of interest to the Dark Cosmology Centre. The Centre, located at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, has recently added to its faculty associate professors Sune Toft and Marianne Vestergaard, and is expanding into the areas of high-redshift galaxy evolution, and the field of quasars, supermassive black holes, and quasar-host galaxy evolution, in addition to the Centre's existing areas of interest: reionization, gamma-ray bursts, dark matter, cosmic dust, clusters of galaxies and gravitational lensing. Several DARK fellowships are now available with a starting date in 2010. DARK fellows will pursue their own independent research programs with selection preference given to those working in areas of interest to the Centre. Appointments are for 2 years with the possibility of extension for a further year. DARK fellows receive a competitive salary (>€52000 p.a. + pension) and additional funds for computer, travel and publication expenses. Most non-Danish citizens are eligible for a favourable tax scheme. Copenhagen is a beautiful, family-friendly city with a large international community, a lively and diverse cultural scene, and a very high quality of life.
