Maiores informações no site http://www.uesc.br/ ================================================= 3. POSDOCTORAL POSITION - ANGRA NEUTRINOS PROJECT (comunicado por Vera A. F. Martin) The Neutrino Reactor Research Group of the Brazilian Center for Physical Research, in Rio de Janeiro, is inviting applicants for a one-year postdoctoral position, in the framework of the Angra Neutrinos Project. This project foresees the construction, installation and operation of an anti-neutrino detector to monitor the activity of the 4GW reactor in the Angra dos Reis nuclear power plant. The research program is part of an international effort to develop new tools to check nuclear reactor activity based on independent and non- invasive methods. The candidate should have obtained the doctor degree in the last 7 years and be motivated to face the typical activities of detector development work. Basic knowledge of neutrino physics is welcome, although we are mostly concerned with hardware and software skills. In addition to the fellowship, the candidate will be granted: * monthly finantial support for small expenses related to his/her * activities; * air ticket; * one extra payment to help his/her personal installation in Brazil. Details related to the application should be sent, before the end of November/2008, to:       A. F. Barbosa (laudo@cbpf.br)       CBPF - Rua Xavier Sigaud, 150       CEP 22290-180, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Thanks for advertising this opportunity in your R&D environment.  A. F. Barbosa. ================================================= 4. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION ON SUPER-EARTHS (Comunicado por Marcelo Borges) Title : High Precision Radial Velocity for Super-Earth Detection Place : Haute Provence Observatory, France The Institut d'Astrophysique of Paris (IAP) and the Haute Provence Observatory (OHP) have an immediate opening for a two-years postdoctoral research associate to participate to the instrumental upgrade and optimization of SOPHIE high-precision spectrograph based on the 1.93-m OHP telescope as well as the scientific exploitation of different programs related to the detection and characterization of low-mass exoplanets with SOPHIE, HARPS and CoRoT. The candidate will be based at OHP, and integrated within the science team interested in low-mass exoplanet search and characterization. S/He will contribute to the upgrade and the optimization of the SOPHIE spectrograph including a new guiding system, a new fiber scrambler and a new calibration unit with the help of OHP technical staff. S/He will also participate to the scientific exploitation (observations and data analysis) of the large programs conducted with HARPS, SOPHIE and CoRoT for the search and characterization of low-mass exoplanets. These programs include radial velocity observations as well as ground-based photometry using OHP facilities related to transit search and stellar variability. The candidate should have a PhD thesis on astrophysics. Preference will be given to applicants who have a background in instrumentation, data reduction and observational astronomy as well as experience in exoplanets and stellar activities.
