POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS - CAUP (comunicado por Marcelo Borges) The Centro de Astrofisica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP http://www.astro.up.pt/) opens a call for four (4) Advanced Post-doctoral Researchers. The positions are for 5 years (equivalent to an assistant professor) starting before the end of 2007. CAUP is the largest Astronomy research institute in Portugal, evaluated as Excellent by an international panel under the auspices of FCT. The fields of research at CAUP are: Origin and Evolution of Stars and Planets Star Formation Planetary Systems Stellar Structure and Evolution (including helio and asteroseismology) Galaxies and the Evolution of the Universe Physical Properties of Galaxies Observational Cosmology) The contracts are aimed at researchers with relevant scientific curriculum and publication record and with significant experience in their field of research. They will be expected to supervise research students and to propose and conduct new research projects and funding applications (national and international), as well as lead the participation of CAUP in relevant international initiatives in their field of research. PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT - POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IAC COROT PROJECT (comunicado por Marcelo Borges) PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IAC COROT PROJECT. The IAC is expecting funding for 3 years for a postdoctoral position working for the Corot satellite project. Principal tasks will be the astrophysical analysis of Corot data, with a focus on ground-based follow-up observations for the verification and further characterization of results from the satellite. Observational experience, with a background in photometry and/or spectroscopy is highly valued. The appointee will be encouraged to develop own research lines involving the detection and characterization of exo-planets or stellar variability studies. At IAC, he will have access to the Canary Islands' telescopes, including the 10m Grantecan telescope that will be available within one year. The positions are for 5 years starting before the end of 2007. The net yearly income is above 42000 euros (before taxes) corresponding to the salary of an Assistant Professor. LNA - VAGA PARA REALIZAÇÃO DE POS-DOC (comunicado por Alberto Rodríguez Ardila) O Laboratório Nacional de Astrofísica - LNA comunica a abertura de uma vaga para realização de projeto de pós-doutoramento (com bolsa) na área de astronomia e astrofísica. A bolsa terá duração de um ano, com possível renovação por mais um, e com início conforme a disponibilidade do candidato, mas de preferência até novembro de 2007. Poderão se candidatar pessoas com doutoramento em astronomia ou astrofísica, ou pessoas que irão terminar o doutoramento em breve, com o início da bolsa somente após o termino do doutoramento. O candidato selecionado ocupará a maior parte do tempo em atividades de suporte ao SOAR, as quais incluem suporte aos usuários no planejamento das observações e redução de dados, administração e manutenção do software para o controle da fila de observação assim como atualização de páginas web do Telescópio. Conhecimentos de IRAF, Phyton, IDL e MySQL assim como de técnicas de observação no óptico/infravermelho-próximo são relevantes para a vaga. O candidato poderá ocupar uma fração do tempo em pesquisa própria, na sua área de seu interesse. As inscrições estarão abertas até a identificação de candidatos apropriados, conforme juízo do LNA.
