The requirements are a Ph.D. degree and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to join the research and teaching activities of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and to strongly interact with students. Presently, the Department includes ten faculty and seven postdocs doing research in areas of observational and theoretical cosmology, extragalactic, galactic and stellar astrophysics. We are interested in developing the Department particularly in areas related to theory and mm-radio astronomy. However, applicants from all areas of astrophysics are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have access to the 10% of all the telescope time in Chile, including VLT, Gemini, Magellan, APEX and ALMA telescopes. Teaching duties are in astronomy and physics, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate is expected to be able to teach in Spanish within a year. POSSIBILIDADE DE USO DO ESPECTRÓGRAFO PHOENIX NO SOAR (comunicado por Alberto Rodríguez Ardila) O Escritório Nacional do Telescópio SOAR quer fazer um levantamento dentro da Comunidade Astronômica Brasileira do interesse no uso do espectrógrafo infravermelho de alta resolução Phoenix no telescópio SOAR no semestre 2006B. Atualmente, o Phoenix encontra-se instalado no Gemini sul. Portanto, solicitamos aos astrônomos interessados em submeter projetos de observação utilizando esse instrumento junto ao SOAR em 2006B, enviar um e-mail a aardila@lna.br manifestando sua intenção, junto com um breve comentário sobre o porquê não utilizar o instrumento no Gemini e sim no SOAR.
