======================================================================= 2. WORKSHOP ON "STARS WITH THE B[e] PHENOMENON" (comunicado por Francisco Xavier de Araujo) SECOND ANNOUNCMENT: Workshop on "Stars with the B[e] phenomenon" 10 - 16 July 2005 Island of Vlieland, The Netherlands ------------------------------------------------------------- The purpose of this workshop is to gather theorists with expertise in stellar evolution, stellar atmospheres, stellar winds, mass loss and transfer, and circumstellar disks, as well as observers, working in different spectral regions to present and discuss the latest progress in the field of B[e] stars. We especially want to focus on the following questions : - What causes the B[e] phenomenon? - Does every B (and O?) star undergo a B[e] phase during its evolution? - Which roles play rotation, magnetic fields, and especially binarity? - What is the evolutionary connection of B[e] supergiants with other post-main sequence massive stars, especially with LBVs? - What is the evolutionary status of the so-called "unclassified" B[e] stars? - Is there any connection between the classical Be stars and B[e] stars? * CONTACT : e-mail: M.Kraus@phys.uu.nl http://www.astro.uu.nl/~kraus/b-e-conf/ * IMPORTANT DEADLINES : Abstract submission : March 31, 2005 Registration : April 30, 2005 Hotel reservation : May 15, 2005 Payment (Registration fee + hotel deposit) : May 15, 2005 Workshop : July 10 - July 16, 2005 ======================================================================= 3. RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP XMM-NEWTON SCIENCE OPERATIONS CENTRE (comunidado por Raimundo Lopes de Oliveira Filho) The European Space Agency, ESA, offers astronomers and space scientists the possibility to hold ESA-funded Post-doctoral Research Fellowships. Details of the program can be found at: http://www.rssd.esa.int/?project=TOP&page=fellowships Within this program ESA Internal Research Fellowships are available at the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre (in the European Space Astronomy Centre, located at Villafranca near Madrid, Spain), see: http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/ Interviews are planned for April 2005. It is expected that the successful candidate will conduct research based on XMM-Newton data. Applicants for this post should have a PhD in astrophysics or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Experience in medium to high resolution X-ray spectroscopy and/or the study of Active Galactic Nuclei is desirable. Contact: N. Schartel (Norbert.Schartel@sciops.esa.int) Yours sincerely, XMM-Newton SOC ******************************************************************************
