GEMINI OBSERVATORY - POSTDOCTORAL (comunicado por Max Faundez Abans) GEMINI OBSERVATORY JOB ANNOUNCEMENT ADAPTIVE OPTICS POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW INSTRUMENTATION GROUP Gemini Observatory is currently seeking an Adaptive Optics Postdoctoral Fellow to assist in the Multi Conjugate Adaptive Optics (MCAO) integration and testing as well as participate in the science commissioning. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing the MCAO performance by generating reconstructors, analyzing performance data, and establishing MCAO observing procedures. The Adaptive Optics Postdoctoral Fellow will assist in developing data reduction techniques (photometry and astrometry) and producing the MCAO data reduction package. Requires a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline. Must be have knowledge of adaptive optics (AO) control, AO observing procedures, AO mathematics, servo control, numerical simulations, and the processing of numerical and astronomical data. Must have three years experience in astronomy as well as adaptive optics. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Passport and be able to work at high altitude (14,000 feet) at night. Must have valid license to drive, the ability to drive a 4-WD vehicle, and a clean driving record. The position requires frequent international travel as well as the ability to effectively collaborate with individuals from a wide range of cultures and countries. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Position will be based in La Serena, Chile. Closing Date: February 18, 2005.
