1. 56ª REUNIAO ANUAL DA SBPC

A versao 2004 da Reuniao Anual da SBPC sera' realizada em Cuiaba, MT, de 
18 a 23 de julho de 2004, sediada na Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso.

Como a inscricao de trabalhos, palestras, seminarios, encontros, minicursos,
e demais modadlidades de participacao  e' feita via sociedades cientificas, 
as propostas oriundas de membros da SAB devem ser encaminhadas ao 
Coordenador da Comissao de Ensino da Sociedade Astronomica Brasileira

A first conference on Gemini science results

Input needed from Gemini Board

-Endorsement of "Gemini Science 2004"
-Plan for May Board meeting around conference time
-Expected participation by Board members (especially members with Gemini data...)
-Promote conference through individual contacts

Primary Goals

-To highlight first years of Gemini Science 
-Gemini North since 2000B
-Hokupa'a and OSCIR
-NIRI and GMOS; ALTAIR and MICHELLE
-Gemini South since 2001B
-Flamingos-I, CIRPASS and OSCIR
-PHOENIX, Acquisition Camera, GMOS-S and T-RECS
-About 75 papers will have been published in refereed journals by May 2004 --> 
time to get together!
-To promote the unique capabilities of Gemini telescopes and instruments

Secondary Goals

-Enhance scientific collaboration
-Highlight results of key Gemini joint proposals
-Foster new scientific collaborations among Gemini users
-Define new science avenues
-Identify best Gemini capabilities (in post Aspen spirit)
-Explore best strategies to optimize instrument modes
-Publicize Gemini science and unique capabilities
-Increase mutual acquaintance among Gemini users

-Invited speakers (~6)
-Major users of Gemini, instrument scientists or coordinators of large Gemini 
programs
-E.g. Glazebrook & Abraham, Hinkle,  Close, Hook, Perlmutter, Kirshner ..
-Doug Simons (Aspen process)
-Oral contributions and posters 
-Three days of conference activities; 1/2 day of Users' meeting 
-Number of participants ~80
